McCormick & Co., Inc., Sparks, MD, launches first microwaveable, retort stand-up pouch for Finishing Sauce gravies, using new non-foil structure from Ampac Flexibles, Converted Products, Cincinnati, OH, that withstands retort temperature of 250o F, provides 12-month shelf life. Adhesive-laminated, reverse-printed polyester/oriented nylon/ polypropylene gusseted pouch features clear bottom so consumers can view contents. Special inks withstand retort temperatures, provide opaque coverage on front, and back panels for best execution of graphics that portray upscale image. “Cool grip” extended seal area on either side of pouch eases use by keeping microwaved sauce away from vertical half-oval gripping spots. “We wanted to offer consumers a package that is easy-to-use and does not require refrigeration before it is opened,” says Stephanie Woodhouse, product manager, McCormick. “There are no other wet gravies in flexible pouches [in the United States].” Pouches ship six/corrugated case that doubles as point-of-purchase display tray.
